As some of you may have noticed Cutegeek got hacked a couple weeks ago and we had a DOS. Luckily we were able to recover all our lost data and the site has been up and running ever since. Ironically this came at a unique time…October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month per the homeland security website “it is an opportunity to engage public and private sector stakeholders – especially the general public – to create a safe, secure, and resilient cyber environment. Everyone has to play a role in cybersecurity.” I had always thought cutegeek was untouchable and we would never get a hacker but low and behold it happened. I was in a state of shock asking WHY?!?!
As a result I started monitoring who ARE my FB and Twitter friends, sometimes your best friends are your worst enemy. I changed all my profile settings and passwords to every online account I own. Needless to say I am a tad paranoid.
It’s amazing how quickly someone can find your personal trends by your online search history. I will be trying a company called Disconnect search this month to see how this will make a difference in my privacy. It is designed to let you search privately using your favorite search engine.
I also will be testing out different sites like Siber Systems Robo Form and mypermissions to find the best password security method out there. As of now I am a lost little girl with over 12 different passwords I have to remember...not to mention the amount of time I have used with the lost password tab.
Cutegeeks remember to guard your online identity and passwords including changing them frequently. Happy National Cyber Security Awareness Month! Stay tuned for my review of Disconnect search, Siber Systems Robo Form and mypermissions
