Happy 1st Day of Geek Week- Blockbuster Sunday
Today marks the first day of Global Geek Week. Kicking off Blockbuster Sunday on YouTube’s geek week is Freddie W; who gave us a preview of what was scheduled for today and geek news update. Follow Freddie W and watch his channel as he goes on a first date. If you haven’t entered the Global Geek Week/YouTube Contest you still have till Thursday to enter in your 2 minute geek video on what makes you a geek and how you give back.
What makes me a geek you ask? and how do I give back?
Since I was a child I always wanted the latest technology. When my friends had a Speak and Spell in 1986 I had a Talking Computron. It was hand held mini computer with a keyboard, eight-character red LED alpha-numeric display, 20 built-in programs, cartridge slot, and electronic voice. My first gaming system was a Nintendo and yes I saved the princess (I was even princess Peach a couple years ago for Halloween).
In school instead of the plain scientific calculator I had to have the Texas Instruments TI (because I needed to do graphs and formulas in 7th grade?). I had a beeper before most of my friends in high school but it wasn’t until college when I became a true geek with my first own PC w/ an AMD K6-2 processor.
Fast forward to the present and I am still always wanting the most advanced technology. I tend to always say this product is awesome but you know what would make it cooler? Geek to the core I love the buying, unboxing and user experience with a new product (hence why I write for technology). I also loved when I worked at Dell watching a product conceptualized then launched.
How I give back is by volunteering and fundraising for CCFA.org using social media to raise awareness for these diseases. Through my twitter and facebook accounts plus the CCFA.org site, we have raised around $1,500.00 in the past 2 years and continue to fund raise through social media.
