The Eton Rover... A Self-Powered Device You Didn't Know You Needed...

The Eton American Red Cross Rover, part of Eton’s TurboDyne Series of products that uses Hand Turbine Technology to power devices is a self powered tool which uses hand turbine technology to produce energy. This model is an AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio with Flashlight and USB Cell Phone Charger. It is easy to use, durable and utterly necessary for home and car. This little device only needs a few hand cranks to power on the flashlight and radio in an emergency and to charge your cell phone enough that you can call for help. I like the white LED light source and the direct USB power transfer. It has a telescopic antenna to ensure maximum range of radio reception and a headphone jack. At less than 8 inches long and 13 ounces, it easily stores in a kitchen drawer, a utility cabinet, in a vehicle’s glove compartment, the side pocket of a dive bag….you get the idea.Check out my unboxing and demo video to see how the Eton Rover looks and works...

The only improvements I could make to this device is to have a compartment to store the included USB cable so that it is always on hand when you need it and to provide a mildew resistant, water-proof pouch like a Re-pac Cloth Bag or a Loksak waterproof bag to protect the Rover when it is not being used.

I wish I had one of these when I was in the Peace Corps but I am just as happy to have it now, living in a big city with two small kids. Having lost electric, lived through a fire in our building, and been stuck on the side of the road in a car, I appreciate having the Eton Rover on hand. I would definitely recommend one of these for boaters, driver’s, families and anyone who depends exclusively on cellular phones for home use.
