My Interview with E.G. Daily
I had the unique opportunity to interview one of my favorite 80’s iconic cult classic actresses, E.G. Daily (Elizabeth Daily). Can I just say this; when I spoke to her for the first time her voice was and is exactly the same plus she is humble, sweet and hilarious!
If you live under a rock and don’t know of E.G. Daily her long list of accomplishments would make any one blush. E.G. has crossed over all lines of the entertainment business and now in the tech world with her Amazon downloadable seminar. E.G. is an iconic actress from her roles in Valley Girl, Better off Dead and Pee-wee's Big Adventure as Dottie to her voice over career as Tommy Pickles in Rugrats to most recently her beautiful rendition of Faith Hill’s “Breathe” on the reality show the Voice…and that is only the Clift notes of her career.
My first question I asked was how does she look younger than she did in the 80’s and how does she maintains a very fit body. To which E.G. said she has always been into fitness and taking care of her body by maintaining a nutritious diet. She also said (unlike so many other 80’s actors) that she realized early on that excessive drinking and drug use can take a toll on your body. It’s no wonder she has a slamming body and looks ageless.
This year marked the 30th anniversary to Pee-wee's Big Adventure so my big question to E.G was what did the cast do for the big occasion? She celebrated it with Damon Martin (Chip), Diane Salinger (Simone) and Lou Cutell (Amazing Larry) and of course Paul Reuben (Pee-wee Herman) where they screened the cult classic at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with their 4-5K fans that attended for the screening.
For those who didn't know of E.G. epic voiceover career she is the voice of your favorite character Tommy Pickles in Rugrats , Buttercup in The Powerpuff Girls, the voice of Babe: Pig in the City and the voice Baby Mumble from Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2.
But did you know this...
AND it doesn’t end there…
She also has had a thriving career in the music industry starting with her 1986 hit "Say It, Say It" that made No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the No. 1 spot on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. I think this is cooler because who doesn’t love Scarface? She actually had two songs, "Shake It Up" and "I'm Hot Tonight," included in the soundtrack to the film Scarface. She continues to record till this day because as she said in the interview music has always been her passion.
E.G. continued her music career and released a song titled "Changing Faces" in 2003 which was the song was used on the end credits of Rugrats Go Wild. In 2008 she released another single titled "Beautiful" which she made available through iTunes.
Bravely in the fall of 2013 Daily surprised us all by re-entering the music world as a contestant on the The Voice when she did a blind audition and sang "Breathe" from Faith Hill. During her time on the Voice E.G. chose to be on Team Blake. E.G. proceeded to win her battle in the shows battle rounds singing the song "Something to Talk About" but unfortunately lost in the Knockout Rounds, with a performance of Bonnie Raitt's, "I Can't Make You Love Me." If I was a judge that wouldn’t had happened, as you can tell in the performance below her voice is like Tripendicular!
Recently E.G. was casted for Rob Zombie's 31 to portray Sex-Head that should be released in early 2016. When I spoke with E.G. about her role she is very excited about it, thinks the movie is intense (in a good way) and loved playing such a unique character as Sex-Head. This will be her second Rob Zombie film as her first was as Candy in Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects.”
As if E.G isn’t busy enough she has an Up Close and Personal Voice-Over Acting Seminar that you can download on Amazon here that just came out. She is also an active advocate for Wildlife Waystation and Last Chance for Animals organizations.
If you’re dying to see E.G. live (like I am) she is performing at Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood and the show will feature Lee Miles of Super Naked. The show is on Sunday, Nov 22, 2015 at 6:00 PM PST and per E.G. it will probably be a sold out show so get your tickets now here.
By the end of the call with E.G. I was on a personal high and also sad the interview ended because she was so amazing to talk to. It was almost like talking to your best friend when chatting with her. So like for sure definitely check out her in 31 releasing early next year and her performance at Whisky A Go Go, like totally.
E.G. will also be Hi-Tech Chic's 1st woman of the month so stay tuned for that post.
