Happy Birthday to CuteGeek.com!

by on March 1st, 2011

On March 1st 2009 we made our very first post “Welcome to CuteGeek.com!” and in these two years, we’ve come a long way since that very first welcome post. At first we were worried no one would visit us (who wouldn’t worry) but as the days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, we realized we shouldn’t worry so much.

Over the past two years we have featured Brilliant women such as Ann Finnie (HP) and Leslie Sobon (AMD), and brought you reviews on the 2011 Lincoln MKX and The Netgear Stora.

Ustream…I stream…We all should Ustream!!

by on November 9th, 2009

ustream_logo-youreonIt’s rare now-a-days I stumble upon a website and think that it’s pretty cool. I recently found out about this unique website called Ustream.tv and had to check it out.  Ustream is a live interactive video broadcast website that allows anyone with a camera and internet to broadcast to a worldwide audience.  The website was originally started by 2 US Army Officers that wanted to find a way for soldiers to interact live with all their loved ones all at the same time.  In 2006 Ustream was born and an instant hit with public figures and celebrities.  Some of Ustreams users that are in the public eye (to name are few) are Obama, Hilary Clinton, Ashton Kutcher, Diddy, and many more (not to mention cutegeek)!

I have to admit once I heard about this I was pumped!  My parents, siblings, and in-laws back in Texas have web-cams; what took me so long to find Ustream?  I also realized I HAD to tell my cousin who recently got deployed to Iraq about this! Imagine how awesome that would be for us family members to keep in touch with her while she is over there (till 2011 I might add)!

To Tweet, or not to Tweet

by on October 7th, 2009

Do you Twitter?

At this point, with all the hubbub about Twitter all over the news and mainstream media in general, everybody and their mom knows what Twitter is. But do they use it? While there are over 25 million users of the service already, 80% of accounts have fewer than 10 followers which implies that the majority of such users are only followers, and not Twitter “leaders.” Couple this with the fact that many folks hop onto Twitter to see what all the fuss is about, don’t get into the groove of “leading” a social stream in this manner, and go inactive, and you get the picture. Maybe it’s not as wildfire as everybody makes it out to be?

I love my HP IPAQ 910!

by on May 29th, 2009

Yeah yeah I know this isn’t a new product but I love my HP Ipaq 910 Business Messenger!  Actually after seeing my friend throw a fit the entire weekend and threatening to throw a phone out the window (will not mention brand but its apparently everything but a phone);  I sat there content with my phone.  Yes my phone may have minor problems like its not loud enough over my hip hop music and that may be a user error.  Also, call me crazy but I kinda like listening to my ringer and tend to miss calls while looking at my phone dancing along to the ring tone.  I also do this in my condo’s elevators and have a good idea that security is cracking up at me.

Get Your Guns Out

by on March 13th, 2009

For the Cute Geeks that are heading to Austin for South By Southwest Interactive, there is a group of fellow Geeks that are taking the convention by storm…and nerf darts.

Andrew McCollum, a co-founder of Facebook, has concocted a plan for an interactive assassin game. Once you receive your target (over direct message, of course) set your fun gun to stun and prepare to embark on your journey. If you see someone you’d like to target instead, send a direct message “d assn target @username”

You can keep tabs on the game by following @assn on Twitter, or at a interface that can be found here which also provides rules, bot commands, and activity.

What the Tweet?

by on March 5th, 2009

From Comedy Central’s Daily Show to CNN, it seems like most people are a flutter about Twitter.  And since I’m not one to shy away from social anythings (online or in real life), I’ve put my hand in and dabbled quite a bit with it.

For those fellow Cute Geekettes who are still a little dubious about this whole Twitter Craze (and truthfully a little confused about why it’s even relevant or important) there are a multitude of people who are quick to tell you what it is.  As for why it’s important, however, a recent article by Michael Arrington really sums it up nicely.

His blog post today explains that everyone should start thinking about Twitter as a Search Engine.
