Registration for CES and Nina’s Infamous CES Checklist

by on October 24th, 2016

ces-logo-2016It’s that time again to start registering for CES and other events during CES 2017 in Las Vegas. Today registration for attendee’s general admission opened up and those wanting to attend CES can register here.

This year there is a great line-up of speakers and events inside the Las Vegas Convention Center and outside as well. As of today the line-up of keynote speakers that are confirmed are Jen-Hsun Huang (Founder, President and CEO of NVIDIA), Carlos Ghosn (Chairman and CEO Nissan Motor Corp., Ltd.) and Kevin Plank (Founder and CEO of Under Armour). Most events require a CES badge except for events outside the LV Convention Center or Sands Expo like LaunchFest.

Each year I have a check list for CES that continues to grow from lessons learned from past CESs. Below is my ever growing checklist and tips to help you plan your CES trip accordingly. Continue Reading…

Review: BALLISTIC Jewel Series Cases

by on April 22nd, 2016

BALLISTIC 1I recently broke my mophie case for my iPhone 6S. To be fair I think it had one too many drops down the stairs. Since I’m clearly accident prone I needed a replacement case ASAP.

The good people at BALLISTIC sent me a replacement case that was rugged and also still pretty. The case style they sent me is called the Jewel Mirage which is part of the BALLISTIC Jewel Series. The BALLISTIC Jewel Mirage Case offers slim, sleek, pocketable design enhanced with a unique laser etched metal design.

Other features of the case are the BALLISTIC Corners and raised lips which provides protection against scratches, corner drops and surface shock. It also protects your smart phone for a drop of up to 6 feet high.

I only have had the case for a little under 2 weeks but I love how rugged but sexy it looks. It’s also not as bulky as you would think since you can drop it from up to 6 feet high. To be honest I’ve already dropped it a couple times and there has been no harm to my iPhone or the case so far.

The BALLISTIC Jewel cases are available on their site starting at $19.99 and they offer free standard ground shipping currently in the US.

Product Review: mophie juice pack air for iPhone 6s

by on November 17th, 2015

I recently purchased the new iPhone 6s (review to follow on examiner) and I got my first mophie with it. As press and attending more events after the launch of Hi-Tech Chic having a low battery is not an option. For the past 6 years I have gone to so many tech events where people are on the hunt for a plug to charge their phone; one lady even got creative and charged her smart phone in the venue’s bathroom. Needless to say when you have a low battery on your phone you will go to great lengths to find a charger or outlet caveman style.

Mophie 2I finally decided it was time to get a mophie juice pack air with the new purchase which has also been a great case for my iPhone 6s as well. The mophie juice pack air is a lightweight case and with a 2,750mAh battery pack that delivers more than 100% extra battery. On the mophie there is an integrated standby switch which allows you to choose when to charge or save some juice. It also has a LED power indicator displays the juice pack battery levels and charge status, which has been a big help! Something I didn’t know the Mophie, while plugged in, recharges your iPhone 6s first and then the juice pack case recharges itself.

The mophie has a durable outer-band, raised bezel edge and rubberized support pads inside of full-case protection guard. Its high-impact protection case has saved me each time I have dropped my iPhone 6s down my cement stairs (not on purpose).

Unfortunately it is on back order for one to two weeks so if you want to give this as a holiday present I suggest order it now. It’s currently $99.95 and you can place your back order here.

I love my new mophie, someone should have told me to buy one of these sooner because it has been a life saver when I have a low battery and nowhere near a charger.

MORE SXSW Interactive & Gaming Expo

by on March 26th, 2015

AuditoriumThe SXSW Interactive Gaming Expo is my favorite event (besides Auditorium Shores Concerts). It combines developers, manufacturers and fans of the gaming culture with its diverse range of events of geek culture with the cross-console video game world.  It’s held at Palmer auditorium in Austin (walking distance from my casa) and is kid friendly. The most adorable thing about this is to see little kids geek out on games like my little brothers and I use to back in the day.

There was allot to see and explore at the SXSW Gaming Expo so I am going to highlight what I found the most interesting.

Plotagon is the creative animation app that develops students’ skills in critical thinking, creatiphotovity and writing. The Plotagon character creator lets students create themselves, famous and notable people, or characters and then the creative writing takes off from there. When I wrote my first play (at 12) I wish I had this app (though in my day we had beepers…not smartphones). I’m so jealous yet excited of kid’s technology now a days! Definitely check out Plotagon especially if you are a teacher; I believe getting kids engaged with creative writing and technology is brilliant!

DelorianRoad’s? Where we’re going we don’t need roads!” That quote seems more relevant now than back then because during SXSW the AeroMobil flying car that transforms in seconds from an automobile to an airplane was introduced. AeroMobil is a flying car that perfectly makes use of existing infrastructure created for automobiles and planes, and opens doors to real door-to-door travel. As a car it fits into any standard parking space, uses regular gasoline, and can be used in road traffic just like any other car. As a plane it can use any airport in the world, but can also take off and land using any grass strip or paved surface just a few hundred meters long.* Continue Reading…

MOPHIE (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition Juice Pack

by on July 29th, 2013

MophieRED is a charity that works with major brands to fight for an AIDS free generation. Each brand such as Coca Cola, mophie, FEED, Starbucks, Converse, and many others donate a certain percentage of each product RED they sell. For instance for each mophie product you purchase 5% gross profit goes to RED.

I’m always running out of juices in the most epic instagram moment. The RED Special Edition mophie juice pack air for the iPhone® 5 caught eye. The mophie charges your iPhone up to up to additional 8 hours talk time on 3G smart phone, up to additional 8-10 hours of internet on most providers, up to 40 hours of audio and 10 hours of video playback.I can’t wait to get an iPhone 5 so I can review this

The mophie depending on design runs around $99.95 so if you purchase the mophie roughly ~$4.95 go to RED. Just think your shopping for a good cause and what better then to help RED.

MacWorld Recap- Part II

by on February 22nd, 2010

By mid-day I realized I should have ate; dumn mistake and should have known that from previous E3’s and CES’s.  Admittedly I was a tad grumpy however I was not ready for this.  At every show as a women blogger some dude is going to either think we don’t know our products (women make up over 60% of household decision making) or they are just sexest. I ran into one of those booths that will remain un-named. It’s sad that women in technology still get treated this way.

After that bad taste in my mouth I decided I should visit a fun booth; ie Hard Candy…Surely these folks would be sweeter; I mean the word candy is in the product name! When I walked up to Hard Candy Cases I got a big smile on my face; the booth was  ran by all women at the time! Their product line was bold but durable; everything a women now-a-days needs!  These cases do not scratch and if they by chance do it’s an easy buff out. They also had cases for the iPad and showcased a new all rubber case for Macbooks which felt kind cool. I am looking forward to checking out  Hard Candy’s Cases  and how these will work with my Macbook. Continue Reading…
