CT BAND – Turn Your Classic Watch Into a Smart Watch

by on January 24th, 2017

Combining elegance with technology is no easy task. I was intrigued to learn about the smart strap called “CT BAND“that gives intelligence (smart watches features) to all classic watches by simply attaching it to the watch dial.

Wait…WHAT!?

How amazing is it to make any of your watches into smart watches?! Instead of buying a separate fitness tracker that clearly does not look as nice as a watch the CT BAND fits that void so you have both in one. It allows you to enjoy the sensors and features of a smart watch while keeping the elegance and expertise of traditional watchmaking.

How does it work?

With its panel of physiological and environmental sensors, CT BAND uses cutting edge electronics technologies (several patents pending). The CT BAND mobile app allows you to analyze at any time the data gathered on the strap. Notifications received on your smartphone and/or tablet are directly available on your strap through a screen pop-up.

The CT BAND comes with 3D Accelerometer, Bluetooth connectivity, Physiological sensors, Environmental sensors and a Microphone. It’s battery life is 24-48 hours and takes an hour to charge. The CT Band smart strap synchronizes with most tablets and smartphones using either Android or IOS and it’s sync range is 10 to 20 meters.

The CT BAND is available in 3 finishes – silicone, leather, stitched-leather with 7 different colors. CT BAND is available for pre-order on Byrifft.com for $149.00 and for more information about the CT BAND click here.

I think this is an awesome product and concept but I haven’t tested it yet. Hopefully they will send me one to review for Cutegeek or Hi-Tech Chic in 2017!

USPS Letters to Santa Program & NORAD’s Santa Tracker

by on December 1st, 2016

norad-2016

Santa is coming to town!!! It’s December 1st and it’s time to start gearing up for the holidays and get the kids prepared for Santa’s arrival Christmas eve. First things first for the kiddos is to write their Santa letter of what they want for Christmas. I always wondered where all these Santa letters go and I learned that USPS has a Letters to Santa Program.

For more than 100 years ago USPS started receiving letters to Santa. In select Post Offices the general public is invited to “adopt” Santa letters. In all locations where the public may adopt letters written to Santa, strict privacy guidelines are in place. Any member of the public choosing to adopt a letter may simply respond in writing or if they choose grant the wish, a decision that is left to the individual.

Individual customers and representatives of organizations wanting to adopt a letter must come to a participating Operation Santa Post Office in person. Both individual customers and organizational representatives must fill out the proper PS Forms 6012 (organization), 6012-A (organization record of letter), or 6012-I (individual) and show identification before viewing any letters. Indiegogo Campaign: The Pup Connected Pocket Scanner

by on November 22nd, 2016

I forgot all about scanners since I work from home and don’t really have a need for it. Then again this would be ideal for those like me who travel and go to a lot of Tech Conferences. I seem to always loose the business cards while at conventions furthermore I do not want to come back from a trip to scan individual cards one by one.

Introducing Pup’s Pocket Connected Scanner

Pup Scan have been collaborating with a strong team of engineers and designers for 18 months. One perk about about the Pup Scan is that it gives users the ability to connected to your favorite clouds. It is tiny, lightweight, wireless, with a long-lasting battery. It automatically takes care of every step, from your sheet of paper to its destination on the internet.

I hope to get a a review unit for Cutegeek and Hi-Tech Chic before CES. Till then keep checking back from me for a full product review!

Last Minute Valentine’s Day 2016 Gift Guide

by on February 12th, 2016

It’s less than 2 days away from Valentine’s day and you still don’t have a gift or a good idea for a gift for that special someone. Don’t panic! Below is a list of cool gift ideas for Valentine’s Day or for any other special occasion if you don’t celebrate Valentine’s day.

Love Board

Velleman MK101 Flashing Led Sweetheart is for the true geek couple gift. The user installs the 28 brilliant red LED lights on to the heart-shaped circuit board and watch as they light up and flash. It is currently available on Amazon and is under $10.00 If you are an average Amazon user you may not get this till Monday however if you have Amazon Prime you should get it in time! This is so geeky I adore it!

Shine vday

If you have a healthy geek or your special someone likes working out Shine from Misfit has some great products. They have gift-ready box sets, bundles, accessories and are all 30% to 40% off through February 14th. I have been a huge fan of Shine since day one and have reviewed a few units. What I love about Shine is that it is cross functional by giving you more option to wear it besides just on your wrist.

Uncommon Goods

If you have a little more time than 2 days for your Valentine’s Day Date check out http://www.uncommongoods.com/gifts/valentines-day/valentines-day-gifts for unique gifts. I personally love celebrating NOT on the 14th when everyone and their momma is eating out. I have found this is trending as a lot of my friends do the same. So Uncommon Goods is a good option for the late celebrators plus they have some VERY unique Valentine’s Day gifts.

Puko

How many times is your special someone always running out of a charge on their smart phone? I know all the excuses (my phone is running out of a charge, I left my charger at home and yada yada) because I use to use them all the time until my new iPhone 6S and portable charger. Recently launched, the new Puku Light is a lightweight powerful portable charger featuring a 5000 mAh battery. The Puku Light is compatible with smartphones, tablets, mobile and hand-held USB-charged devices. The Puku Light is available in four different colors and comes with a two-year warranty that guarantees a defect-free, quality product.

Dudes gifts

I think this is the coolest idea for man gifts and not just for Valentine’s Day is Man Crates. Within the crate your man will find snacks, gadgets, gear and video games for men. They then ship them with a crowbar for him to open up his crate. I have never heard of a company with this unique of an option to open your gift but I think this is awesome. They have 24 hour shipping before noon. To learn more about the Man Crates or would like to shop the Man Crates site click here.

Of course if you’re a traditionalist and want to go with flowers or candy these three sites offer same day shipping: Shari’s Berries, Cookies by Design, or FTD.

I hope this helps you guys! If you need a Valentine’s Day Beauty Guide for your Valentine’s day date click here for my article on Hi-Tech Chic.

Everyone have a lovely Valentine’s weekend and happy early Presidents day!

Nina is CES 2016 Bound

by on December 15th, 2015

CES Logo 2016Its official I’m going to the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2016 and covering it for Cutegeek, Examiner, and for the first time Hi-Tech Chic! I finally settled on flights and booked them! I think this flyer I got in the mail just made me realize I’m going to Vegas baby! I will only be at CES January fifth through the seventh, basically for Pepcom’s Digital Experience and Showstoppers so I don’t have to run around the convention center.CES pamplet

Pepcom’s Digital Experience and Showstoppers are my favorite events; it gives press the unique opportunity to see the latest and greatest of technology before it’s displayed or more up close than at the convention center.  Most of the people and products I personally want to view are usually at these two shows. I will also be doing some one off evening cocktail parties January the fifth and the sixth.

To my media friends; I have received over 500 email requests. I’m not sure how I got so popular but I’m only one person so I will start responding to those I will meet up with. Note I will not being going to the convention center only attending Pepcom’s Digital Experience and Showstoppers.

To check out what CES shenanigans I will be up to you can follow me on twitter at @nrpena, @cutegeek, and @hitechchic OR to get the recap or new posts about my CES 2016 experience check back on Cutegeek, Examiner, and Hi-Tech Chic.

So wish me luck and let the games begin!!

All information was provided by CES, Showstoppers and Pepcom’s sites.

Product Review: mophie juice pack air for iPhone 6s

by on November 17th, 2015

I recently purchased the new iPhone 6s (review to follow on examiner) and I got my first mophie with it. As press and attending more events after the launch of Hi-Tech Chic having a low battery is not an option. For the past 6 years I have gone to so many tech events where people are on the hunt for a plug to charge their phone; one lady even got creative and charged her smart phone in the venue’s bathroom. Needless to say when you have a low battery on your phone you will go to great lengths to find a charger or outlet caveman style.

Mophie 2I finally decided it was time to get a mophie juice pack air with the new purchase which has also been a great case for my iPhone 6s as well. The mophie juice pack air is a lightweight case and with a 2,750mAh battery pack that delivers more than 100% extra battery. On the mophie there is an integrated standby switch which allows you to choose when to charge or save some juice. It also has a LED power indicator displays the juice pack battery levels and charge status, which has been a big help! Something I didn’t know the Mophie, while plugged in, recharges your iPhone 6s first and then the juice pack case recharges itself.

The mophie has a durable outer-band, raised bezel edge and rubberized support pads inside of full-case protection guard. Its high-impact protection case has saved me each time I have dropped my iPhone 6s down my cement stairs (not on purpose).

Unfortunately it is on back order for one to two weeks so if you want to give this as a holiday present I suggest order it now. It’s currently $99.95 and you can place your back order here.

I love my new mophie, someone should have told me to buy one of these sooner because it has been a life saver when I have a low battery and nowhere near a charger.

Where is Nina going?!

by on October 6th, 2015

hi-tech chic logo smallest

In September I finally launched my own site called Hi-tech Chic (pronounced sheek) which will be reviews of fashion and tech instead of just tech.

Since then many of my Cutegeek and SF Examiner fans have been asking if I’m leaving either site and the answer is NO! I will remain to write for Cutegeek till I’m no longer cute…which may be sooner than later since I’m in my 30’s.

My promise to you all is to continue to write and review technology for all three sites with the same integrity since I started writing over 6 years ago.  My content will continue to be unique and newsworthy for each site but now with Hi-tech Chic the element of fashion will be included with tech.

In conclusion and to put the emails, DMs, and texts at rest I’m still writing for Cutegeek and Examiner just adding another site to my repertoire.
