Main Awards:
5 Hearts Award: This award will be given to products that are great and work as advertised. Heart award winners received the majority vote during the award discussions but the vote was not unanimous. Products that receive our 5 Heart Award will not be eligible to receive our Editors Choice Award at the end of the month. Any number or products can win this award in any give month.
5 Diamond Award: This award will be given to products that are simply fabulous, work as advertised or exceed expectations and during the award discussions received a unanimous vote. Similar to a diamond we expect the recipient of this award to be strength, to exude beauty and to be durable. Products that receive our 5 Diamond award will be eligible to receive our Editor’s Choice Award given at the end of each month. Any number or products can win this award in any given month.
Editor’s Choice Award: This award will be given to one product every month, only products that have received a 5 Diamond Award during the corresponding month be eligible to receive this award. The award will be given on the last Friday of the month. If any product receives a Diamond Award after the last Friday of the month that product will be Eligible for the following month’s Editor’s Choice Award.
Add-on Awards:
(as the name suggest – these awards can only be given to recipients of Main Awards)
Cute Award: Products that are astonishingly cute will receive this award. You may think it has to be ‘pink’ but in reality it doesn’t. We all have different opinions of what ‘cute’ can be, so if this award is given we will be sure to explain (in detail) why.
Durable Award: This award is pretty much dedicated for Nina, if a product survives two weeks with Nina who is very clumsy with her gadgets, it will receive this Add-On award. Also if a supplier of any product we review allows us to put it to our Durability Test and the Product passes it will also receive this award. Heart and Diamond Award winners are eligible to receive this Add-On award.*
Green Award: This award will go to products which are Energy Efficient and also to companies that are investing in the effort to become greener.
Special Awards:
Brilliant Women: This award will be awarded to every woman we feature in our Brilliant Women in Technology column. These women are nominated and later chosen to get interviewed. The nomination process is very simple. Companies were contacted by us; to recommend a female they considered an extraordinary asset. Since we, (Michael, Nina and myself) already have relationships established with some companies we recommended some women ourselves.
(The purpose of this column is to highlight women making strides in the industry and to also exhibit some of the different jobs that they have. We have brainstormed meaty questions to motivate others to pursue careers in technology, to teach others about what is out there, and to get to know who these amazing women are.)
In the future, more awards may be created. As we receive more products to review we may identify other areas that need to be highlighted, for example products for a mommy on the go, or for the business travelers. If anyone has any ideas for awards please feel free to contact us.

*Durability test includes dropping the product onto a hard floor four (4) feet off the ground (most of us live in NYC – so it might be on a wooden floor), spilling water onto it and dropping a 5 pound bean bag onto the product several times.
