Favorite Website of the Week: IndieGoGo.com

by on December 31st, 2012

Today I used IndieGogo.com for the first time. IndieGogo.com is a platform for people to use to raise money. Entrepreneur’s use it to launch their concepts, runners use it to fund their races and I’m using it to hopefully pay for a fellowship I recently got selected to participate in.

It is very easy to create a campaign and there are no application fees or wait times to go ‘live’. I submitted my fundraising page in less than an hour, and was guided through the process by hints and checklists. If you’re wondering how Indiegogo.com makes money, its through charging a percentage of the fees collected. The fees vary from 4-9%, or if you’re non-profit. After comparing Indiegogo.com to other competitive sites, I came to the realization that it was the cheapest to use. If you are associated with a non-profit, the fees are even cheaper, which is very nice.

Start Your New Year Right

by on December 31st, 2012

Today, December 31st, many of us are thinking about the same thing – what am I wearing tonight? 🙂 After those deliberations are over, we start thinking about this year finally coming to an end and how we’re going to start the new one, making sure its better than the last. We become hopeless romantics and start daydreaming all the great things we can accomplish in the new year like running on the beach with 6 pack abs, or eating calorie less strawberry shortcake, or buying a smart phone under $200 without extending your contract. How can we start the new year right?

Jullien Gordon, a North Star in my life who guides me from afar, agrees – we should be thinking about those things but we should be thinking about them in a different way. He’s developed a New Year’s guide I believe is worth sharing. The guide has nine driving questions to help you set and keep goals. It reminds us of our achievements, things to be thankful for, as well as divides our goals into various areas in our lives (family, professional, financial goals, etc.). My favorite part is that it allows us to redefine success. How many of us are living our lives according to someone else’s definition or guidelines of success. I was for quite some time, and boy has life gotten better since then!

Cool websites that have helped this holiday season…

by on December 19th, 2012

As we apparently near the end of the world per the Mayan’s 12/21/12 theory I have noticed all of us are on a mad rush of getting our loved ones gifts or crafting your perfect holiday card.

OK I love Walgreens.com b/c this year I used the print from iPhone feature and designed our very own holiday card for same day pick up at the store in less then 2 hours? WHAT?! I like using the collage feature and the fact you can shuffle your photo’s around to create the perfect collage for the family! If your like me who enjoys being original and think outside the box do the photo shuffle for your collage. Create unique cards for everyone!

Santa Baby…more cutegeek gift guide

by on December 12th, 2012

That’s right; we all need to hint around on our present or ornaments hopes…Some people prefer to give wish lists on amazon.com which is helpful but I am the creative type! I don’t go by lists; too predictable…I love the element of surprise and hot chicks in the roller derby…call me old fashioned!

So geeks buying for cutegeeks here are some great gift ideas:

SkatesRoller Skates:

I was on Embarcadero and saw a few folks in some Chicago roller skates from skates.com which has been servicing the SF bay area since 1975. Skates.com started as Skates On Haight that sold skateboards and rented out roller skates to the general public. NOW they are skates.com and when I checked out the site I was not only impressed by the variety but in LOVE!

“Dear Santa: Can I have some new Sure-Grip 70s Super Motion Outdoor Roller Skates? I think I have been a good girl and they are only $169.99!? Hmm?! Maybe?”
