MacWorld Recap- Part I

by on February 17th, 2010

IMG_1872This year was my first year at Macworld  as a cutegeek blogger and of course Apple didn’t even have a booth…however that didn’t stop the masses to attend the show. When I first told my friends I was going I got the immediate question; “Why are you going since Apple won’t be there?” Another friend sarcastically said “What is MacWorld without Apple…just World?” I had no idea what to expect after all my pals banter…What was MacWorld without Apple?  And where is Mr. Job’s?

My questions were answered as soon as I walked into the masses…Software, Games, and Accessories!

Review: I am cheating on my PS3 with my new Wii

by on February 17th, 2010

wii-hardwareI am quite the loyal gal; in fact it took me years to bow down to HP products after bleeding the Dell blue  for so long.  My first gaming system back in the 80′s was the first Nintendo (yeah I saved the princess in Mario brother’s, ran my ass off on Track and Field, and vastly improved my shooting aim from Duck hunt).

I had played  Wii Sports  a year ago plus again at my cousins place recently and for the first time ever I got over 150 on bowling (now I am up to 200), kicked booty on virtual tennis and can box anyone out of my virtual boxing ring. After realizing I rock at the game I made it a goal to get it at some point.  After 1.5 years of owning a PS3 I got a Wii as a second gaming console. It has become quite the addiction. Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems – we’ve heard it before, but now we’re actually living it…

by on February 12th, 2010

As more and more women are earning more than their counterparts, more issues are arising, due to the stigma around money – that’s the one sentence that sums up the article on the NY Daily News site.

Money is a form of control – its a form of power. I make more means I control more – at least that’s what it often translates into, in my world…

Review: Pantech Impact

by on February 11th, 2010

Pantech Impact FrontDid you see the Best Buy TV ads during the Christmas holiday with the Christmas carolers suggesting the guy buy his girlfriend a cell phone as a holiday gift? When my boyfriend saw that commercial he said “Why would you buy your girlfriend a cell phone for Christmas?” I had to disagree. I would totally appreciate a brand new cell phone that’s cute and filled with nice features, like the Pantech Impact.

The Impact is part of AT&T’s line of quick messaging phones. The phone I reviewed was a pretty soft pink, but it’s also available in blue. It flips open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard with a 2.6” color screen. The front has a touch-screen with a numeric keypad with a small black and white screen. The phone is also fairly light and small, weighing in at 4.5 ounces and measuring 4.19″ x 2.04″ x 0.7″.

Web Wednesday: Move over, Manolo

by on February 10th, 2010

One of the biggest trends that I have seen on the web is the availability of customization on practically everything. In the last Web Wednesday, for example, you could upload and send unique sets of postcards. Threadless encourages designers to upload unique images and the community votes on ones that are made into t-shirts. Zazzle lets you design mugs, shirts, whatever you want. It seems like almost everywhere you look, there is a chance to put your own spin on things.

shoesofprey

For the shoe fanatics out there who swear by the comfort and worth of top designers like Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin – now you can really get a one-of-a-kind shoe made just for you…because YOU design it! With the Shoes of Prey customized shoe designer, you can chose the basic shape, embellishments, fabric and more of shoes made just for you. Take heed though, these puppies don’t come cheap. There is a price for customization and comfort: shoes cost $180 for ballet flats; $230 for 1½ to 3½ inch heels and $280 for 4 to 4½ inch heels.

Of course, if you’re going to already shell out $500 for a name brand, why not make it your own name brand? There is no longer the need to hunt for the perfect shoe that is missing from your closet. Just make it! Nervous that they won’t fit? Don’t worry, the site says you can return for a full refund or exchange the shoes.

These shoes definitely look made for walking. Curious – has anybody out there tried this, or will try to make their own? I’d love to hear your experiences!

The Internet is a big place. There are so many sites to read, widgets to play with, and viral videos to watch. In the midst of all the trending topics and links being sent around, sometimes there are those little tidbits on the Internet that go unnoticed. Have something to share? Motorola DROID Multimedia Station

by on February 8th, 2010

The Motorola DROID is a beautiful piece of hardware that generated a ton of buzz this past fall, mostly because of the much hyped and slightly controversial ad campaign that Verizon ran for the device, that whole “Droid DOES” business. Remember that?

Well, the Droid does, as far as I’m concerned. It does most if not all of the things the iPhone does, the screen resolution is mind blowingly awesome, and while perhaps a bit heavy and still a little on the complicated side (for me, an iPhone heavy user, trying to do many things on the Android OS is difficult and slow. It would take a little bit of time for me to truly become fluent, I believe. But that’s just me.)

Favorite Website of the Week: Thrillist

by on February 6th, 2010

In a big city, it’s hard to keep track of the newest bars, restaurants and fun shops. I know that the “Lifestyle” section of the paper covers this, but the only time I ever pick up an actual newspaper is to steal the coupons from my parents’ local Sunday paper. I can read the paper online, but what am I looking for? I found it incredibly frustrating to cross-reference sites like Yelp, Zagat online and newspaper websites for BOTH Philly and NYC.

And then I discovered Thrillist.
