Sony’s Got Style With The Webbie HD

by on March 11th, 2009

I have to admit I have never been into a Sony store! I may be a geek but I am from Texas, land of massive department stores, so now being in San Francisco I have many other options.  So I had the Sony Style Experience at the Metreon in downtown San Francisco.

I was greeted right away by a lovely sales representative named Rachel who had on some cute shoe’s (more proof geeks can be super cute)!  After telling her that I was interested in a small video camera, she quickly directed me to the Webbie display, and instantly I was mesmerized.  For such a small camera and low price point ($199), it was AWESOME!  Plus I got the eggplant color and you have to love the BOLD color personalization.  As of now the Webbie comes in 3 colors, eggplant, orange and silver.  In spring 2009 they will have a new Webbie that is vertical and features a swiveling lens that can swivel up to 270 degrees.

New iPod Shuffle that Talks

by on March 11th, 2009

shuffle-silver1Apple has just introduced a new iPod shuffle that’s half the size of its previous model and get this, it TALKS to you!

It’ll tell you what song is playing, the artist and the playlist name. The functionality isn’t out of this world but its pretty cool, dont’cha think? The thought of having a little voice in your head may seem weird, but when we listen to songs on the radio we’re usually told what the song is, so I don’t think it’ll be much different.

“Imagine your music player talking to you, telling you your song titles, artists and playlist names,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPod and iPhone™ Product Marketing. “The amazingly small new iPod shuffle takes a revolutionary approach to how you listen to your music by talking to you, also making it the first iPod shuffle with playlists.”

The 4GB iPod shuffle is available in silver and black and is shipping now, you can get yours at www.applestore.com, the price is just $79. I personally like the black one, it goes well with everything :)

Legacy Locker

by on March 11th, 2009

legacylockThe cool part about getting older and traveling is that the things we once thought would never exist, or the things we never could imagine existing end up popping up. For example, this past weekend I went to a mall in Orlando and found a clip to hold up my cell phone as it charged in an outlet. I didn’t take a picture but a couple of years ago, that would’ve never existed.

Today, I asked Michael from HardwareGeeks.com how his Eikon Digital Privacy Manager for his PC was working, because I had also received one sometime last year and had finally had the time to check it out, on my latest business trip. The only issue I had was that I had forgotten to pack the software. He gave me the link to download the driver, but the most interesting part of the conversation was me telling him I couldn’t keep track of all my passwords, so I had no hope but to use this (hopefully amazing) product.

Pantech Matrix Pro Review

by on March 7th, 2009

matrix-proI just got a BlackBerry Bold a few weeks ago after my Treo 750 died (may it rest in peace). I was still in the honeymoon phase with my BlackBerry – oohhing and aahhing over its features, downloading applications like Facebook for BlackBerry and TwitterBerry, busting it out while waiting in line at the grocery store to discover more of its new features – when I was asked to review the new Pantech Matrix Pro.

How could I say no? It’s a brand new phone, and it looks pretty sleek. I’ve never used a phone with both a QWERTY and numerical keypad, so I was eager to test that out. First impressions are everything, and my first impression of the Pantech Matrix Pro was that it’s heavy. Weighing in at 5.34 ounces and with dimensions of 4.2 x 2.0 x 0.9 inches it’s not exactly slim. Technically, the BlackBerry Bold weighs 0.5 ounces more, but for some reason the Pantech Matrix Pro feels much heavier. For a night out, it would take up significant space in my clutch purse and could not be conveniently slipped into my jeans pocket. But, it’s not a piece of jewelry, so let’s move on to the more important stuff…I mean, it is a cell phone so let’s talk about functionality.

Smartphones and Netbooks

by on March 6th, 2009

I relocated to San Francisco a year ago and it has changed my lifestyle. First off I walk everywhere b/c frankly I am in the city and driving here is insane and it’s just easier to walk!

So basically in the few months I’ve lived here I have been chased through Safeway (Supermarket) by a lady who had turrets syndrome (she is well known in the area), random homeless folks either singing or asking for change, and then witnessed a lady stealing a wheel of cheese in the slowest get away known to man (who sticks a cheese wheel under their shirt and then limps out thinking you can get away with it?). Needless to say now I know to walk with a purpose, ear buds on, and dark sunglasses. Except for this one day…

What the Tweet?

by on March 5th, 2009

From Comedy Central’s Daily Show to CNN, it seems like most people are a flutter about Twitter.  And since I’m not one to shy away from social anythings (online or in real life), I’ve put my hand in and dabbled quite a bit with it.

For those fellow Cute Geekettes who are still a little dubious about this whole Twitter Craze (and truthfully a little confused about why it’s even relevant or important) there are a multitude of people who are quick to tell you what it is.  As for why it’s important, however, a recent article by Michael Arrington really sums it up nicely.

His blog post today explains that everyone should start thinking about Twitter as a Search Engine.

Tech and Obama

by on March 4th, 2009

ObamaEarlier this week I read an article (through my bank account’s website) that Barack Obama would be appointing the first CTO (chief technology officer) of the United States. Now that tech seems to be the buzz word of the week (at least to me), considering the recession, I thought that was a really good move on his part, just because we’re trying to stay on top – right?

Having attended Carnegie Mellon Univ (www.cmu.edu) – I always saw/heard of technological advancements, and research being done, but another common thing was that it wasn’t enough, it was never enough. The US still had a long way to go if it thought it would actually be able to compete with other countries around the word. It also wasn’t enough because we still didn’t have a lot of minority representation in the sciences and technology, so my school used to (and still does) invests in a summer program that introduces high school students to the wonderful world of tech, like robotics (http://cmu.edu/enrollment/summerprogramsfordiversity/sams.html).

I’m hoping Obama makes things happen. Change isn’t easy, and it’s always easier to say things, than to actually do them, but everyone knows his first 100 days in office will be scrutinized. He’s saying all the right words, making everyone love him…almost reminding me of an early relationship – the honeymoon phase to be exact. We all know that comes to an end, sometimes we realize it when its too late, but lets give Obama the benefit of the doubt and hope that he really does invests in technology, that he creates new jobs for all of those that have lost theirs, and that he brings this nation back to where it belongs – on top.

If investing in technology is the answer, than lets all try to do a bit of it.
